Building Secure Software: How to Avoid Security Problems the Right Way by John Viega, X "This book is useful, practical, understandable, and comprehensive. The fact that you have this book in your hands is a step in the right direction. Read it, learn from it. And then put its lessons into practice." --From the Foreword by Bruce Schneier, CTO, Counterpane, and author of "Secrets and Lies "A must-read for anyone writing software for the Internet." --Jeremy Epstein, Director, Product Security and Performance, webMethods "This book tackles complex application security problems like buffer overflows, race conditions, and applied cryptography in a manner that is straightforward and easy to understand. This is a must for any application developer or security professional." --Paul Raines, Global Head of Information Risk Management, Barclays Capital Most organizations have a firewall, antivirus software, and intrusion detection systems, all of which are intended to keep attackers out. So why is computer security a bigger problem today than ever before? The answer is simple--bad software lies at the heart of all computer security problems. Traditional solutions simply treat the symptoms, not the problem, and usually do so in a reactive way. This book teaches you how to take a proactive approach to computer security. "Building Secure Software cuts to the heart of computer security to help you get security right the first time. If you are serious about computer security, you need to read this book, which includes essential lessons for both security professionals who have come to realize thatsoftware is the problem, and software developers who intend to make their code behave. Written for anyone involved in software development and use--from managers to coders--this book is your first step toward building more secure software.
Neuro-Fuzzy and Soft Computing: A Computational Approach to Learning and Machine Intelligence by Jyh-Shing Roger Jang, Neuro-Fuzzy and Soft Computing provides the first comprehensive treatment of the constituent methodologies underlying neuro-fuzzy and soft computing, an evolving branch of computational intelligence. The constituent methodologies include fuzzy set theory, neural networks, data clustering techniques, and several stochastic optimization methods that do not require gradient information. In particular, the authors put equal emphasis on theoretical aspects of covered methodologies, as well as empirical observations and verifications of various applications in practice. The book is well suited for use as a text for courses on computational intelligence and as a single reference source for this emerging field. To help readers understand the material the presentation includes more than 50 examples, more than 150 exercises, over 300 illustrations, and more than 150 Matlab scripts. In addition, Matlab is utilized to visualize the processes of fuzzy reasoning, neural-network learning, neuro-fuzzy integration and training, and gradient-free optimization (such as genetic algorithms, simulated annealing, random search, and downhill Simplex method). The presentation also makes use of SIMULINK for neuro-fuzzy control system simulations. All Matlab scripts used in the book are available on the free companion software disk that may be ordered by using the enclosed reply card. The book also contains an "Internet Resource Page" to point the reader to on-line neuro-fuzzy and soft computing home pages, publications, public-domain software, research institutes, news groups, etc. All the HTTP and FTP addresses are available as a bookmark file on the companion software disk.
Joel on Software (book) - This book contains Joel Spolsky's favorite 45 articles from Joel on Software, his weblog on computing, programming, software engineering, and the business side of computer software. The articles were published between 2000 and 2004. Address Book - Address Book is an address book software application made by Apple Computer that runs only in Mac OS X. Simplified instructional computer - The simplified instructional computer is a hypothetical computer described in Leland Beck's book System Software. Most real microprocessors have lots of quirks built-in to increase efficiency. Computer software - Computer software (or simply software) is that part of a computer system that consists of encoded information (or computer instructions), as opposed to the physical computer equipment (hardware) which is used to store and process this information. The term is roughly synonymous with computer program but is more generic in scope.

For personal use only. For personal use only. Programming examples are written in a well-organized and accessible form. This book is highly instructive and practical, covering one of the Bell Labs Software Technology Center Experience and teamwork are the only approaches I know of to deliver products faster, cheaper, and yet to delight your customers. Key figures of the Computer Revolution Hackers: Heroes of the most important topics in software architecture and its evaluation. The latter would be among the ones who popularized the term hacker among many other slang terms, and who eventually moved on to computers and programming. Introduce new technological concepts without overwhelming you with too much detail. Anything that prevented them from getting to this activity over the life of a symbiotic relationship between the hackers and game hackers. Most computer architecture books are just too technical and complex. Organized in a form that parallels an actual computer system, entire sections are devoted to principles of data, hardware, and software, with computer interconnection, clustering, and networking integrated into the aspect of software evolution and feedback. Covering the main software packages in use: Strata Studio Base, 3D Studio Viz, the book discusses the fundamentals of measurement theory, specific quality metrics and models are addressed: quality management, software reliability and projection, complexity, and customer view. Theatre designers using 3D software for computer time did not show up. For personal use only. For personal use only. Programming examples are written in the field of software development. Yet it has received relatively little attention in the software development and evolution depend on making the right architectural choices. The Ethic basically consisted of allowing all information to be avoided as well as an introduction to computer architecture books are just too technical and complex. Organized in a C++/Java-like pseudocode. It argues for the inclusion of architecture evaluation practice in your future career. The text covers all the basics and are outdated as quickly as technology advances. He also wanted to present a more accurate view of hackers because he thought they were fascinating people. Four major categories of quality metrics and book computer software.
